On the road at last

I had a lovely farwell dinner on Saturday with my host family. I cooked german food (Spätzle) and my hostmom made a Pavlova (similar to Meringes) for dessert. I worked Saturday morning and spent the rest of the day talking to some friends on the internet, washing my clothes and packing.

Saying goodbye was really hard, because I had such a good time with them and it just felt like home. They gave me a lovely handmade card with pictures of them and I also got a “Tiffany´s & Co. necklace. Cella asked me a thousand times if I really have to go and why I couldn´t stay. Annie even drove me to the city and dropped me of in front of William´s appartment. When they left, Cella pulled the window down and screamed: “Don´t go Sarah“…… so sweet!!

At about 9pm I went to Side bar (for the last time) with William and Annie. I had an amazing Steak with Chips and 2 beers there. But it didn´t help me to fall asleep on the bus. For the first few hours I kind of felt asleep just to wake up a few minutes later. It was so uncomfortable. I just couldn´t find a good sleeping position.

But it was worth it. I love Byron Bay. I´m only here for a few hours and I already felt in love with this place. It is better than my expectations.
I met Hilary and a friend of hers in the town for a coffee. They have a lot of little café´s, shops and bars which I like a lot. And it´s really nice to arrive in a random place and meet up with someone you know! Williams is staying in a different hostel, about 20min. away.
My hostel is in front of the beach. It has a pool (I already swam some laps in it) and my room mates are really nice. One guy from Perth and a lovely girl from New Jersey. We had a big laugh when we found out that we both love French guys ;-). (The girl and me of course ;-)
Annie (my irish friend, not my host mom ;-) is going to arrive tomorrow afternoon and I´m really excited. She´s going to stay in my room as well.

Bisous Sarah ;-)

a laughing and a crying eye

Tomorrow is gonna be my last day with my hostfamily. I´m gonna miss them a lot, especially the kids and i´m sad to leave them. I hope i have a chance to visit them again. That´s the bad thing about travelling. You get so close and connected with people and than you have to leave them without even knowing if you ever gonna see them again.
But on the other side i´m happy that i´ve met them and made so many great experiences and learned about living in an Australian family.

Today i spent hours with packing all my stuff. Unbelievable how much more things i bought in the last few months. But because i read some of my books i can leave them behind and save some space. It´s really funny, i´m more excited to go travelling in Australia then i was excited fly to Australia.

I´m leaving with my friend Wiliam tomorrow night on the Greyhound bus to arrive in Byron Bay Monday morning. Our friends Annie, Lizzo and Michaela will arrive on Tuesday/Wednesday and we all going to celebrate "St. Patricks day" on Thursday. Its going to be a crazy and funny "Reunion".

I´ll keep you updated.

Love Sarah

Taronga Zoo, 27.02.2010

Finally, i´ve seen my first koala´s today :-) I took Macie and Cella to the Zoo and there they were. All asleep. But that´s what they do 22 hour a day. And guess what they do the other 2 hours? Yes, sleeping. What a boring life ;-) I wonder what they dreaming about. Eukalyptus-Leaves????

The Taronga Zoo is beautiful. The animal enclosures are all great laid out. They also have a lot of tree´s, bushes and flowers and in the space between you can always catch a great view of the harbour. The best Zoo i´ve ever been to. We´ve seen Emu´s, Giraffe´s, Elephants, snakes ect. and we also watched a seal and a bird show. Both shows were really amazing and interesting. At the end of the bird show a lot of different kind of birds flew over the sky. There was no fence around us, so i have no idea how they train them to do that.

Unfurtonately the kids were tired and wanted to go home after 3 hours. You actually need a whole day if you want to see everything...

At night I went out with Annie, Lizzo, Michaela, some French guys and one girl form germany. We had an awesome party. It´s gonna be my last before i leave...
