Cairns (26.04.-29.04.2010)
Cairns is going to be my last stop on the east coast. I realised how time flies. Six weeks of travelling up the coast are already over. And I’m on my own for the first time. It was a really weird feeling on the first evening. I walked around the town, along the water and felt really lonely. So I called Michaela and chatted with her for a while. After that I felt better. And then I remembered that I knew someone who was in Cairns as well. A really funny german girl from Bavaria named Kathi which I met on Magnetic Island. So I sent her a text and we met the next day.
We chilled on the Lagoon next day, walked around and I met some friends of her. And I talked to a guy named Avi from Israel who is flying to New Zealand on the weekend so I might see him in Auckland. I also saw a lot of other guys who stayed on Magnetic Island or which I met somewhere else on the east coast. The world really is a town. I also called Nele and it was sooo nice to talk to her. I should have done that earlier. But it was as if we hadn’t been apart for such a long time. I really wish she could be here with me…
I had booked a snorkel-trip on the Great Barrier Reef for my last day in Cairns.
And guess who was on that as well? Francesco from Italy (I also met him on Magnetic Island) and we both laughed when we saw each other. We had breakfast with coffee, tea and muffins and then started to sail out to the Great Barrier Reef. Our first stop was in front of a Island to go snorkelling. It was a bit cloudy all day, but the Reef was just beautiful. So many different colours and shapes. And so many different kind fishes. I even saw a big turtle. Back on the boat we had a nice lunch with seafood, salads pumpkin pie ect. and started to sail to the second spot. The Reef was not so big and much deeper but you could still see a lot. Francesco had a underwater camera and he is going to give me the pictures when we meet each other in Melbourne again. What an amazing day….
